On Vega - Moored at the NDSM - Harbor Kaap De Groene Hoop
In a world where change is the only constant, the Empower Weekend on the sailing vessel Vega offers a unique opportunity to embrace transformation, both personally and collectively. Scheduled for October 4th-7th, 2024, this event invites female-defined beings and those navigating the fluidity of gender identity to embark on a journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and connection.
Hosted by the Fair Winds Collective and EcoClipper, this weekend promises to be an immersive experience on board the historic Vega, moored at NDSM, Kaap de Groene Hoop, Amsterdam. Participants will engage in a series of workshops designed to strengthen both body and mind, including group coaching, yoga, and meditation. These sessions aim to foster personal growth and resilience, empowering participants to lead themselves and others with newfound confidence.
The Vega’s deck will also serve as a canvas for creativity, with maritime art projects that allow participants to express their experiences and insights. Practical skills will be honed as well, with hands-on sailing activities such as hoisting sails (styaing moored at the pier), exploring the engine room, and even climbing the rigging at sunrise—offering breathtaking views of Amsterdam as the city awakens.
Aboard Vega, the community is key. The shared experience of cooking together, learning the ropes of sailing, and navigating the ship fosters a deep sense of unity and purpose. This weekend is not just a retreat; it’s a preparation for future adventures, including a week-long sailing mission in 2025, where participants will apply the lessons learned and continue their journey of empowerment on the open seas.
The Empower Weekend is about stepping into your true self, building resilience, and forging connections that will help you navigate both personal and collective challenges. As Peggy Engelmann ( Fair Winds Collective), a nautical officer and the weekend's facilitator, reflects on her own initiation into the world of sailing, she reminds us that the sea has a unique way of revealing our inner strength: "After 48 hours of seasickness, you realize, that it is just a mindset, it will be through. You start to realize that you are at sea, with people who are in the same setting, you feel your inner self and the bonding and connection to everything."
This October, participate female orientated persons will be in the in the harbor on board Vega. To grow stronger, be more empowered, and ready to make a difference in your life and the world around you.
